Questions, Answered
Do I need dance experience?
Not at all. The Method is built for every body and everybody. We welcome people of all ages and abilities. There is no choreography to learn, nothing to get right, and no judgment involved. You just need to show up with an open mind and move the way you move. Read how the SAH Method works.
Can I do this practice if I have physical limitations?
Yes! We have members of all abilities, ages, and sizes. The practice scales to what your body can do that day: the size of the movement isn't what matters; the quality of attention you bring to it is.
Can I modify the moves to suit my limitations/needs?
Yes, modification is built into how we teach the practice. If no modifications are specified, do what feels right for your body. Always let the rhythm and intention carry the movement rather than match the full physical range your teacher is demonstrating. Keep the movement smaller. If legs or a specific joint are off the table that day, stay with arms/breath only. Sit if standing isn't accessible.
What do I get with the membership?
Your membership includes access to our live weekly session in the virtual studio, plus the full on-demand replay library so you can practice at your own convenience, anytime, any place. See our two plans.
What happens after the 10 free days?
After your 10 free days, you'll be charged $49 per month or $40 per month (billed annually), depending on which plan you selected. If you cancel your plan during the trial, you pay nothing.
Where do the sessions happen?
Everywhere. Our live and on-demand sessions stream directly to your own space, so you can join from anywhere in the world, whether that's your living room, a hotel room while traveling, or wherever you feel like dancing. The live session times show Pacific Time first, with your local time next to it. See the live session schedule.
What if I miss the live session?
Nothing is lost. Each live session is uploaded to our extensive on-demand library, so you can practice on your own schedule between live sessions.
Is this a workout?
The Method moves you, and you will sweat. But the point is not calories or conditioning. The point is to move emotion through the body, let go of what you have been carrying, and come alive again. You will walk away lighter, but it has nothing to do with weight loss.
Do I have to be spiritual?
No. Buddhist wisdom runs underneath the Method and gives it depth, but nothing is asked of your beliefs. All faiths are welcome (even if you have no faith at all). You only need to show up and move, and the practice does its work either way.
What do I need to bring?
You only need a space you can move in, comfortable clothing, headphones or speakers, and something to drink. No mat, no special supplies, and no mirror necessary. Most people practice barefoot, but what's most important is that you feel comfortable... so you do you!
Can I cancel any time?
Yes, and it's simple. You can cancel at any time from your account, and the membership will run until the end of the period you have paid for. There is no contract and no minimum term.
How is this different from ecstatic dance?
Ecstatic dance gives you a floor and a DJ. The SAH Method provides a guided sequence with a beginning, middle, and end: the shake, body keys, somatic movement, dynamic meditation, affirmations, and trance. You are led the whole way through, and the benefits of this structure go far beyond temporary ecstasy.
What are Initiations?
Our initiations are in-person (and often multi-day) dance rituals in extraordinary places. We've been called to create containers that are genuinely transformative, not just nourishing, not just educational, but altering. Think of them as rites of passage: the kind of experiences you go into as one version of yourself and come out of as someone who can no longer fit back into the life you left behind.
Our initiations are a separate experience from the membership, but members hear about them first (and sometimes even receive exclusive enrollment discounts). The next one is at Blue Spirit, Costa Rica: see the retreat.

Why do I feel nauseous or dizzy during the session, and what should I do about it?
The trance portion of the practice is designed to bring you to a threshold: a point where sustained, repetitive movement starts to loosen the grip of thought and identity, and the body's stored, stuck emotion begins to move. This threshold has a very physical signature: right before something releases, people commonly feel nauseous, dizzy, like they're going to burst, or like they need to stop.
In this framework, that sensation isn't a sign that something has gone wrong. It's described as the edge of a "crack," the exact place where you're able to finally let go of something you've been holding. Nausea and dizziness tend to show up precisely because the nervous system resists that letting-go (it wants to stay in control, stay familiar, stay the same), and that resistance can register in the body as queasiness or lightheadedness.
What to do about it:
- Don't push with intensity, but stay in motion. Powering through harder usually makes it worse. Keep going, but at a manageable pace.
- Stay in motion, but make it smaller. You don't need to stop moving, shrink the movement instead. Smaller, gentler, sustainable motion (even just swaying, or arms and breath alone) keeps you with the sensation without escalating it.
- Name what you're feeling rather than pushing it away or grasping it. Silently or out loud, repeat "unpleasant, unpleasant, unpleasant" (or "pleasant" / "neutral," whichever fits). Naming it is a way to say, "This is here, but this is not me," to create some space in between the feeling and you.
- Keep your gaze low or your eyes closed, and slow your breath if it helps. Dizziness often eases when the visual field stops moving, and the breath lengthens.
- If it becomes too much, it's always okay to slow all the way down or pause rather than stop entirely. Coming into stillness (standing still, eyes closed, tracking the body) is itself part of the practice, not a failure of it.
Note: If the sensation is severe, doesn't pass once you slow down, or comes with other symptoms (chest pain, fainting, confusion, etc.), that's a different situation and warrants stopping the practice and seeking medical attention rather than staying with it.
I'm having trouble with the sound levels during live sessions. What can I do to fix it?
During our live sessions, voice and music are mixed live and intentionally shift in relation to each other during the session, so some fluctuation between mic and music volume is expected, but full dropouts or garbled sound point to a local connection issue, not the live mix.
Here are some best practices to help:
- Use headphones, Bluetooth if possible. A wired or Bluetooth speaker also works well as a second option.
- If you're using an external speaker plugged into your computer, make sure the output/input routing is set correctly: The output is your speaker, the input is your device.
- Check for competing Bluetooth connections. If you have more than one Bluetooth device nearby, your computer may be trying to connect to the wrong one.
- Check your device/computer volume settings directly. Bluetooth connections can silently reset your system volume low.
- On Windows specifically: Bottom right, speaker symbol > little plug symbol. That's the sound mixer; choose your speaker as the sound output.
- Leave the Zoom call and rejoin.
- If a phone won't connect to a Bluetooth speaker, check your phone's Bluetooth settings specifically. This has come up as a distinct issue from computer audio.
- If none of the above resolves it, please email [email protected] and we will see what we can do to help.
The video is grainy. Is there something I can do to make it clearer?
Yes, some of our videos are lower-resolution and work best on smaller screens. Good news: we recently transitioned to a higher-quality video capture system, which ensures better resolution and clarity on our newer and future session recordings.
Is there a way to watch the sessions on my TV?
Yes, if you have a browser connected to your TV where you can log in to the virtual studio, or if you use a device that can cast to a nearby television.
I'm new. How do I get started?
Welcome! We are so glad you're here. In your email, you should have received a welcome message (subject line: "Your 10 free days start now.", sent from SAH Method <[email protected]>). If you set your password from a separate email instead, that one was titled "Your New SAH Method Account", from SAH METHOD <[email protected]>.
We'll be sending messages regularly to help you get comfortable with our portal and get the most out of your experience, so be sure to mark our messages as "priority" and keep an eye out for any emails from SAH Method.
On the homepage, you'll see a checklist with prompts to take your first session (the video is right next to the checklist) and add Sunday's live session to your calendar. Feel free to browse the on-demand library and try whatever calls to you!
